March 31, 2020

I would have never dreamt our world would be facing such volatile times, but I remain confident that together as a people, we will prevail, because when people come together with understanding and unity, we can conquer anything. We are turning to you our residents and families to help us help you and stop the spread of this virus. In efforts to keep everyone abreast of what we have been doing the following are a few measures we have been taking.

Taking Care of You:

Your safety is our primary focus and we have elevated our efforts during this pandemic. When dealing with a crisis drastic measures are necessary to be taken and we hope that these measures are not infringing on anyone’s personal rights and we hope that our residents and their families understand that anything we do for the sake of preventing an outbreak is only meant for that purpose.

As of March 12, 2020, our community began enforcing a strict no visitors’ policy. This means that anyone coming to visit with residents is strongly encouraged not to enter the building and utilize video chat conferencing instead. All medically necessary visits are allowed. Anyone entering the building including staff and medical personnel are having temperatures taken and are made to sign in and answer some specific questions concerning covid-19. Additionally, this means that no outside entertainers have been allowed in our buildings

-Activities and Social Gatherings

We understand the need for residents to have some form of socialization and have therefore implemented that all group activities be limited to 10 people maximum so that we can practice proper social distancing and seat residents at least 6 feet apart from one another. For all residents who wish to stay in their room, daily activity pamphlets are being handed out to each resident in their rooms. Group dining has been limited to those residents in need of extra supervision all others are encouraged to eat in their rooms and meal trays are being handed out at the designated mealtimes. For those dining in the main dining are also encouraged to practice social distancing and all communal condiments, linen tablecloths and napkins have been removed from the tables.

-Cleanliness and Hygiene

Our team of in-house cleaning staff oversee the community’s cleanliness and have been instructed to clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, such as activity supplies and doorknobs, especially if someone is sick. Additionally, all staff and residents are advised of the following guidelines to prevent from getting and spreading the virus:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds. (Handwashing: Clean Hands Save Lives). Use 70% alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available

  • In addition to the sanitizing our in-house cleaning staff are performing, every 3 hours all staff are to stop what they are doing to perform a surface sanitizing in their immediate area.

  • Every hour an announcement is made reminding ALL staff to stop what they are doing to have a mandatory hand wash.

  • Every 4 hours a reminder is sent out to remind all staff to hydrate and to encourage residents to hydrate.

  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Practice social distancing with others including maintaining a 6 foot distance from one another.

  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or shirt sleeve, not your hands.

  • Stay home when you are sick.

-Personal Protective Equipment and Sanitizing Supplies

The world is struggling to obtain PPE and Sanitizing supplies, fortunately as a company we took the warnings early and have enough supply to last and are continuing to place orders with various suppliers to ensure we have supplies for the future as well. We are having all our staff wear masks throughout their shift and asking all residents who exit their room to wear a mask as well.

Daily Monitoring of Residents

As good practice, we are monitoring all residents’ temperatures and oxygen levels on every shift. All abnormal readings are reported to residents’ doctor and resident is treated with precautionary measures until resident’s health improves.

-New Residents, Residents Returning from the Hospital and Residents who chose to exercise their rights to leave the building

All residents who are returning to the community with the exception of residents who have gone on a leisure walk, are being asked to self-isolate for 14 days so resident can be monitored for any virus symptoms and mitigate the possibility for a spread. Additionally, any resident who is moving in or returning from a hospital will be asked to obtain a test for the virus to confirm there is not infection of the virus, prior to moving in. Please call our community for more information on how to obtain testing.

-Our amazing and dedicated team

Our staff are the heartbeat of our community and the reason we have comfort knowing that care is being provided by them. Protecting their jobs and safety is paramount so they can continue to be providing great care. We are encouraging staff to stay home when feeling ill or if anyone in their home is feeling ill. We are working on a program to help supplement their income while taking any leaves of absence. Additionally, we are providing meals and snacks throughout the day to ensure staff can stay in the building even on their breaks to limit our staff’s exposure to the virus.

-Life as Usual

The key factor when dealing with any emergency or high alarm situation is to remain calm and not panic. We are doing what we can to keep life as usual here in the community. We encourage families to call our residents and write letters to help keep a positive and happy environment.

-Emergency Supply

Our community keeps on hand emergency food supplies to deal with situations like these. Additionally, we have placed orders for additional, paper goods, hygiene supplies and infection control supplies to stock up on, in efforts of staying ahead of any shortages in the market.

-In the event there is a possible breach

If God forbid 1 or more of our residents are found to have been infected, we are prepared to isolate those residents and with the direction of the CDC, LADPH and DSS work on containing the situation.

-Protecting our future

The measures we are taking to protect you, our staff and our community will result in an experience that is different from what you typically expect from us. We appreciate your patience and understanding as these temporary changes to our amenities and service are implemented. We are committed to bringing them back as quickly as possible when the crisis passes.

May God continue to protect us, watch over us and may He provide the remedies needed now to stop this pandemic. May we take the lessons learned from these experiences and apply them to a bright and positive future!

Kind Regards,

Executive Director
